Post-LASIK Surgery: How to Care for Your Eyes

LASIK eye surgery is known for its great results and for eliminating or reducing the need for glasses or contacts. Patients rarely experience complications, and most are satisfied with the procedure’s outcome. At Six One Six Vision Center, our comprehensive eye exam can do more than determine if you need new glasses. After carefully assessing your eyes, we’ll know if you’re a good candidate for LASIK.

Read on to learn how to care for your eyes after LASIK eye surgery.

Follow Your Doctor’s Instructions

Your eye doctor will provide post-surgery care instructions after your procedure. Follow their recommendations, especially when it comes to medications and eye drops. Expect your surgeon to tell you what you should and shouldn’t do to ensure your eyes heal quickly. They may also give you protective eyeglasses or goggles that you should wear to sleep for a period of time.

Give Your Eyes Adequate Rest

Even if you feel energized after LASIK, you must give your eyes a break. As much as possible, don’t use your digital devices or read printed materials to avoid eye strain. Do your best not to rub your eyes because it can wrinkle the corneal flap your doctor created during the procedure. Also, don’t do strenuous activities, such as exercising and playing sports, for a few weeks to a month.

Don’t Take a Shower Immediately

Experts strongly recommend waiting at least a day after surgery to take a bath or shower. Be careful not to let water and soap touch your eyes while showering or bathing. Moreover, you should avoid going to swimming pools and saunas shortly after the procedure.

Go to Your Follow-Up Appointments

Your eye doctor will schedule a follow-up appointment the day following the procedure. They could ask to see you again in 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months. Your doctor could also set up another eye check six months post-LASIK. These follow-up visits will allow your specialist to see if your eyes are recovering well.

Let Six One Six Vision Center handle your eye care needs. Aside from stylish and quality eyeglass frames, we also offer ocular disease management services. Call us at (208) 514-1858 or complete schedule an appointment online anytime.
