4 Ways to Take Care of Your Eyesight

Your eyesight is bound to change gradually throughout your life. Some individuals will even need eyeglasses or contact lenses of increasing strength in order to offset these changes. There are, however, a few things that you can start doing as early as possible to ensure that you are taking care of your eyes and ensuring that you have the best eyesight and eye health possible throughout your life.

1. Have Regular Exams – Those with good eyesight often think that eye exams are completely unnecessary. Our doctors at Six One Six Vision Center strongly disagree. We recommend that those in Eagle, Idaho and the surrounding areas have a comprehensive eye exam at least once a year to stay aware of what is happening with their eyes. This type of exam can find not only changes in vision, it can also pinpoint changes in overall health, such as oncoming diabetes and high blood pressure.

2. Choose Wisely – We all know that we should exercise, eat well, and avoid harmful substances in order to stay healthy. But did you realize that some unhealthy choices can affect your vision? For instance, smoking greatly increases the chances that your eyes will develop cataracts or macular degeneration. Making healthy choices is a great way to increase the chances of retaining your good eyesight.

3. Educate Yourself about Risk Factors – Your eyes are different from anyone else’s. The closest comparison you can find, when it comes to eye health is that of your family. Take time to review your family’s history with reference to eye disease, or the need for glasses or contacts. This type of education let you know what to tell your eye doctor, so you can both be watching for potential problems.

4. Protection is Imperative – You only get one set of eyes, and as such, protection is very important. Wearing sunglasses can help protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. They can also help to protect you from too much exposure to blue light as well.

Protecting your eyes, and your eyesight is something that is certain to have far-reaching benefits. Visit with our Eagle, Idaho area Optometrist to begin getting the very best care for your eyes.
